Gamers in the market for a midrange laptop now have a new option to consider thanks to the latest member of Acer's Nitro family, unveiled on Wednesday.
The new Nitro 5 is a mix between an ultraportable and a traditional gaming behemoth. You get a classic, sculpted chassis with noticeable exhaust outlets and dark red accents near the hinge and on the keyboard, but there are few other adornments that would make you hesitate before taking it into a conference room. Even the Acer logo is fairly staid.
Options inside include Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics, or an AMD option with A-series processors and Radeon RX550 graphics. There's a hybrid drive configuration that you can max out with a 512GB SSD and a 2TB hard disk, and the Nitro 5 supports up to 32GB of DR4 2400MHz memory.
User-adjustable fan control and a 15.6-inch Full HD display round out the spec sheet. The only thing we don't know yet is how much the Nitro 5 will cost or when it will go on sale, although Acer plans to announce those details shortly.
Meanwhile, if you don't care about gaming and just want a sleek, portable computing option, Acer also unveiled the Spin 1 11.6-inch convertible. The Spin 1's Full HD touch-enabled display can be flipped into laptop, display, tablet, and tent modes, making it equally at home sitting on your desk or propped up on an airplane tray table to play movies. It's remarkably thin and light, at just 2.76 pounds and with a 0.55-inch chassis. Don't expect a lot of horsepower, though: options include Pentium or Celeron processors, 4GB of memory, and a up to 128GB of eMMC storage.
Finally, Acer also announced new Iconia Tab 10 and Iconia One 10 tablets. Each one has a quad-core MediaTek processor, Android 7.0 Nougat, and up to eight hours of battery life. If you frequently stream music to your tablet without a Bluetooth speaker, you'll want to go with the Tab 10, which includes not only four speakers, but even its own subwoofer.
As with the Nitro 5, pricing and availability for the tablets and the Spin 1 wasn't immediately available.
