PS4 Pro & PS4 Slim Converted to Laptops

Edward Zarick, owner of Edsjunk.net, is well-known for modding consoles into laptops. In doing so they become portable, at least, as portable as a home console can be. And with the release of the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro, Zarick took up the challenge of turning both consoles into laptops.

The PlayBook 4 Slim combines a PS4 Slim with a 19-inch display inside a plastic casing. Integrated into the lower case is the full feature set of the PS4, including the Blu-ray drive, USB ports, Ethernet, and of course wireless networking and controller support. There's also an integrated TV control for volume, brightness, and contrast settings, as well as two speakers for stereo sound.

There are some compromises, however. The case contains no battery, mainly due to the weight it would add, but I can't imagine a battery lasting very long powering a PS4 and a display. Then there's the 19-inch panel, which is only 720p. Zarick explains that it's "next to impossible" to source 19-inch displays with a 1080p resolution. There is HDMI-out on the back of the laptop, so you can output to a 1080p TV if one is available.

The PlayBook 4 Slim is not cheap. Zarick charges $1,495 plus shipping of $150 to 48 US states, or $1,195 plus shipping if you supply the PS4 Slim. He'll also upgrade the hard drive for you if you wish.

The PlayBook 4 Pro is not being offered for sale right now as Zarick made it as a commission. However, he is thinking about doing so in the future and will consider new commissions. The PlayBook 4 Pro is huge, incorporating a 24-inch 1080p display and an Android tablet to allow for use of the PS4 app.

If a PS4 laptop is a tempting proposition, read our thoughts on whether the PS4 Pro is worth the upgrade before deciding which PlayBook 4 to purchase.
