Google unveiled a special surprise for Web surfers this Valentine's Day eve.
The Web giant has a new Valentine's Day-themed doodle game aimed at bringing awareness to the plight of the pangolins, the world's most poached and trafficked mammal.
"This Valentine's Day, we're telling the tale of two long-distance loves who have been struck by Cupid's arrow," Jordan Thompson, a software engineer on the Google Doodle team, wrote in a blog post. "Writing love letters to each other from far-off places, these pangolins know in their hearts that they're scaly soulmates. What better day to meet for their first date than the most romantic day of the year?"
Looking to zone out for a while? Head over to Google.com to play the doodle game on the desktop or your mobile device.
As you go through the game, you'll have to pick up different items to rack up points, and earn as many stars as possible. You can click the heart icon in the main menu to learn more about the pangolins and donate to support the World Wildlife Fund's conservation efforts.
First, your little rolling pangolin will travel to Ghana to meet a friend who "teaches the fine art of making chocolate cake," Thompson wrote. Next, the pangolin visits India "where its musical pal shows how to construct a lovely melody that's sure to touch the heart of its beloved."
From there, the pangolin sets out for China, where it learns to dance before embarking on its final ques to the Philippines. There, the pangolin will learn to build a flower bouquet to win the hart of its love.
"Once our pangolin heroes have found their hearts' desire, show your own Valentine they're the king or queen of hearts by sharing your score when the game is complete," Thompson wrote. "After all, Valentine's festivities are always sweeter when they're shared!"
There's a lot of potential here, but Android apps and the stylus-driven touchscreen aren't ready.
