Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users are about to get a taste of nougat — Android 7.0 Nougat, that is.

Samsung today announced it officially started rolling out Google's latest operating system to the two aforementioned handsets on Jan. 17. The company didn't specify which markets are receiving the update, but it had been testing Android 7.0 through its Galaxy Beta Program since November with users in the US, UK, and Korea.

Samsung said the rollout will expand to additional countries and devices before the second half of the year. Here's the list of devices slated to receive the update: the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy Tab A with S Pen, Galaxy Tab S2 (LTE unlock), Galaxy A3, and Galaxy A8.

"With the release of the update, new and improved features promise to let Galaxy users get more out of their devices," Samsung said. "The update also enables faster speeds for downloading apps and system software updates."

Those improvements extend to the Quick Panel, Notifications, and the split screen view. Quick Panel "features a cleaner aesthetic" making icons easier to locate while Notifications should display information more clearly and will support Direct Reply.

In split-screen view, you should be able to more easily adjust window sizes. There's also a new pop-up window function that supports up to five windows; combine that with split-screen view and you can access up to seven apps at the same time for serious multitasking.

Other features include a new Performance Mode that "lets users optimize their smartphones to better meet their specific needs," Samsung said. You can choose between four modes: Optimized, which extends battery life and enhances speed; Game, which makes your games run more smoothly; Entertainment, which beefs up sound and image quality; and High Performance for the highest-quality display settings available.

To bolster security, the update includes Samsung Pass, which lets you use your fingerprint to log into selected websites and apps.
