A Rundown on the Expected Features of Microsoft's Xbox 2 Edition: Project Scorpio

An upgraded version of Xbox One has been hoped for a long time, and finally, the launch of Xbox's second instalment is on the cards. With Xbox 2 Project Scorpio's release in 2017, Microsoft is indeed making a strong bid to dominate the gaming stakes. It is being hailed as the most powerful gaming console ever, and is expected to surpass PlayStation 4 Pro with its definite performance.

Compatibility with 4G Games: The future, as per the first available hints, augurs well for the compatibility of next-generation Xbox gaming and 4G gaming, along with the integration of Windows 10. The guesswork abounds that Microsoft may launch 4G instalments of the existing Xbox One titles.

Compatibility with VR: Microsoft has already thrown its hat in the VR ring with HoloLens that promises more natural, more dynamic interaction with the holograms in our environment. Now, it's expected to take the bar up with its Xbox 2. One expects that the next-generation Xbox console will be VR-friendly, and will enable users to enjoy PC games.

On the top of it, Xbox 2 may also come equipped with an infrastructure to render 60Hz visuals with no fuss at all. But, how supportive 4K gaming and VR will be to 60Hz refresh rate is still a grey area.

Impressive GPU: Microsoft has been keeping the expectations high over its GPU structure for Xbox 2 console, which is said to become more powerful than ever. The tech giant is betting on the 6 teraflops of GPU to support VR and 4K gaming, which is slightly less than the 9 teraflops of GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. If done the right way, it will be the most powerful in the league of gaming processors. Interestingly, AMD Vega CPU and 5GB DDR5 RAM are also baked into it.

"We are proud that Microsoft has chosen to expand their Xbox One family of devices with two new consoles featuring AMD's high-performance semi-custom SoCs that support revolutionary new technologies like HDR, 4K and high fidelity VR to enable the next generation of immersive gaming experiences," said AMD in a statement.

Compatibility with Xbox One Content: With Xbox 2, the content on Xbox One isn't losing any relevance, as it can be accessed without any difficulty on its successor as well. However, the foresight tells a different story for Xbox 2-specific games, which will not be compatible with Xbox One.

Cost: Spencer, in a recent announcement, has confirmed that Xbox 2 will be available at a cost of $500-$600, quashing all the speculations of the console being priced in the range of advanced PCs. But, Xbox 2 isn't expected to come along with a VR headset, and hasn't even partnered with Oculus Rift for VR headsets. So, expect an additional spending of Rs $600-$800 on a VR headset.
