When Google introduced Chrome Frame in 2009, it was their intention to help those running legacy versions of Internet Explorer have access to and enjoy a modern browsing experience. Now that more people are using modern up-to-date versions of Internet Explorer and other browsers, Google has decided that Chrome Frame’s work is done and it is time to retire it.
As of January 2014 Chrome Frame will no longer receive support or updates, so if you are one of the people using it, then you will need to find an alternative solution that works best for your needs.
From the Chromium Blog post: Today, most people are using modern browsers that support the majority of the latest web technologies. Better yet, the usage of legacy browsers is declining significantly and newer browsers stay up to date automatically, which means the leading edge has become mainstream. Given these factors we’ve decided to retire Chrome Frame, and will cease support and updates for the product in January 2014.
