Worried about high-tech thieves getting the drop on the contents of your RFID enabled identification and credit cards? Craft yourself an RFID-blocking wallet to keep them at bay.
Over at Embedded Edge, a hardware and software project blog, they share a DIY build for an RFID-blocking wallet. Why would you want one? Increasingly credit cards and other types of payment and identification have RFID radio tags embedded in them; these tags can be read at a distance without your knowledge by thieves with the proper equipment. That’s currently an unusual vector for lifting information but will likely become more common in the future.
The design of the wallet looks unassuming but it’s built from some rather interesting components. The body of the wallet is a scrap of Kevlar-Nomex fabric, the lining is brushed on silver epoxy, and the whole thing is then stitch together in the shape of a traditional wallet–you could easily adapt it to be large enough for a passport if you wished.
