Google Shutters, Merges, and Cleans Up Nearly a Dozen Services

google-shutters-merges-and-cleans-up-nearly-a-dozen-services photo 1Google is doing a little autumn cleaning and shuttering, merging, and outright removing nearly a dozen services. Services affected include Google Notebooks, Maps, Pack, and Sidewiki.

Some of the changes are fairly dramatic as Google removes services; Fast Flip, Sidewiki, and Google Pack are all shutting down. Some of the technologies will live on in other Google Projects and others will vanish altogether.

Less dramatically Google Maps will lose the Flash API (the new emphasis is on the JavaScript side of things). Google Notebook is, after an extended period of living without active development and support, folding into Google Docs. Any notebooks you have will simple appear as documents in your Google Docs account.
