UPDATE: Apple on Monday released its first look at two new reality shows it has in the works: Planet of the Apps and Carpool Karaoke: The Series.

Hosted by Zane Lowe, Planet of the Apps "celebrates the world of apps and the talented people who create them," Apple's description reads. The show features Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gary Vaynerchuk, and will.i.am, who serve as advisors to developers working to "shape the future, solve real problems, and inspire change within our daily lives."

Meanwhile, Carpool Karaoke is based on the beloved segment from The Late Late Show with James Corden. The series features 16 celebrity pairings "riding along in a car together as they sing tunes from their personal playlists and surprise fans who don't expect to see big stars belting out tunes one lane over," Apple said. It will feature James Corden, Will Smith, Billy Eichner, Metallica, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Ariana Grande, Seth MacFarlane, Chelsea Handler, Blake Shelton, Michael Strahan, John Cena, Shaquille O'Neal, and "many more."

Both shows are "coming soon" to Apple Music. Check out the trailers below.

Original Story (7/13/16):
Apple is really good at a lot of things: Making phones, building hype for its products, producing quality TV.

Okay, we made up that last one, but it might be true soon enough. You may remember that Apple earlier this year confirmed rumors about its small screen ambitions, and now it's moving forward with the effort.

The Cupertino tech giant just put out an open casting call for its first original TV series, dubbed Planet of the Apps. In true Apple fashion, the company describes the new show as a "groundbreaking" series about apps and their creators.

"Join us on the search for the next great app in a new original series," the casting call page reads. "Those selected will have the chance to receive hands-on guidance from some of the most influential experts in the tech community, featured placement on the App Store, and funding from top-tier VCs."

Sound enticing? Apple is accepting online applications now through Friday, Aug. 26. Those looking to get on the show must have an iOS, macOS, tvOS, or watchOS app in beta or another "functional state" by Oct. 21.

The show will film in Los Angeles from late 2016 to early 2017. At this point, there's no word as to when it will air and where it will broadcast, but Apple promised more details about that "in the coming weeks," so stay tuned. Apple is reportedly working on the new show with entertainer Will.i.am and veteran TV executives Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens.
