Technology is always changing, progressing and adapting, it never stands still. Sometimes what seems to be outrightly impossible to achieve at one point in time may suddenly become doable in another time and even rise to become a trendy thing within a few short years afterward.

Only recently, wearable computers seemed like a fanciful idea, however, some next big things are already around the corner to go mainstream. Augmented and virtual reality may soon be catapulted into literal reality due to the advent of the Oculus Rift.

Now that you know this, here is a list of top 5 technologies that may change the world soon.

1. Google Driverless Car

Today, it's no more news that cars can drive themselves. A search engine company, Google has made the dreams of having a driverless car possible for many. The driverless car from Google which is powered by artificial intelligence that tends to mimic the human intelligence in a car, utilizes the inputs derived from a sensor on the top of the vehicle, the video located right inside the car and some positions sensors and radar installed at different parts of the car to move without any human efforts.

2. StoreDot Fast Charging Battery

The prototype for a next-generation battery that combines advanced energy storage technologies with an uncommon knowledge of nanotechnology was recently unveiled by an innovative, high-tech company – StoreDot. In a bid to boost electrolyte performance and increase electrode capacitance, the company has found a new way to effectively make do with bio-organic "nanodots". To this effect, only 30 seconds is required to get the battery fully charged.

3. Cave2

The Cave2 consists of a 10-camera optical motion tracking system, surround sound system consisting of 20 speakers, and 72 LCD panels which present a hybrid reality environment that allows engineers, scientists, and artists to get fully immersed in their research. This 360o wraparound structure which comes very handy with 3D glasses are designed to enable engineers and scientists to virtually experience and get around anything they choose to work with.

4. 3D Printed Food

It is amazing to believe that today food can be feasibly 3D printed. People are steadily being won over by this technology which has taken the world by storm. A range of 3D-printable powder mixtures is currently been developed by a German company, Biozoon. When printed, these mixtures tend to solidify but when eaten, the food melts very quickly. This new 3D-printable food is mainly designed for those who are unable to swallow food or sufferers of dysphagia.

5. Super Maglev Train

Already, the world has witnessed the introduction of very fast moving Maglev trains in China and Japan which are known to reach an average speed of 260 miles per hour. However, with the next phase of train transportation, Super Maglev will most apparently be dubbed even faster. Built on the same Maglev technology, Super Maglev is very likely to reach speeds of about 1800 miles per hour. Thanks to the new enclosed-tube Maglev systems. If only scientists and engineers can figure out how to construct and keep long vacuum tubes pressurized, there wouldn't be any more fears of covering long distances within the shortest time and safest means possible.
