The Rumor Mill: Dissecting the Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung has always paved the way in terms of innovation and design; just take a look at the Galaxy S7 Edge as an example. With the rumor mill running at full force, it's time to check out the potential specs and possible innovative features for the soon-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy S8.

Galaxy S8 Specs and Features

Keep in mind that Samsung has not confirmed nor denied anything regarding its newest flagship device. Currently, the S8 is expected to have a 5.7-inch, Super Amoled display. However, newest rumors suggest a 4K display with no bezels. This rumor comes in part due to a report from ETNews suggesting that Samsung wants to remove the Home button entirely. If so, expect the S8 to have a mostly glass front face, giving it a sleek, uninterrupted surface.

Samsung also uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in its Galaxy line, and the S8 should be no exception. If Samsung continues with tradition, the S8 may have the Snapdragon 830, a beefy processor with enough juice to power a 4K display. The S8 may also have an upgraded camera, USB-C support and the Mali G71 GPU for an enhanced experience when playing traditional mobile games and connecting to Samsung VR.

Release Date

Samsung has released a new Galaxy device in the first or second quarter of every year since 2010. If all goes according to plan, the S8 should be released in February or March of 2017. Samsung may also reveal it before the Mobile World Congress, which runs from February 27 to March 2.

How much will the Galaxy S8 cost?

Taking the previous devices into account, the Galaxy S8 should cost somewhere between $600 and $850 on launch day. The S8 may cost more at launch than previous devices because of its updated 4K display, bezel-less design and other innovative features.

Though it's all mostly rumors at this point, expect to see more things revealed shortly after New Year's Day. If the latest rumors have any merit, you can bet that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be one of the best flagship devices of 2017.
