I'm sure you've spent hundreds of hours listening to the radio over the years, so you might just want to get on the mic. Unfortunately, you'll have to get yourself a few things first, so let's look at the basics you'll need to start this week.
Get A Good Microphone
Not only will you feel like a real radio presenter if you have a good microphone, but your fans will be able to tell the difference. Audio matters when your hobby works entirely on the sounds coming out of your mouth. Any external microphone that is a step up from the one built into your computer should be enough to get you started. You can always upgrade it to a top-of-the-range one at a later date.
A Pair Of Headphones
Headphones are especially handy when you're interviewing other people, which is likely to be the case at least some of the time. Can you imagine how annoying the interview will be if you have to ask someone to repeat what they're saying multiple times? Even if you're a wizard with editing software it's going to ruin the flow, so make sure you've always got a pair of headphones covering your ears.
Use A Pop Filter
There are ways to get around using a pop filter, but for the price you'll pay they're certainly worth it. In the long run you'll save yourself so much hassle when you speak into the microphone. Nobody wants to hear your Bs and ps pop in their ears as you speak, plus they help with hissing sounds too. It's pointless having a good mic if it's not going to live up to its full potential.
Suspension Boom For Microphone
You don't have to limit yourself to strictly audio when you're starting a podcast. You could build a much bigger audience by recording videos and uploading them to YouTube. You'll need other tools to record your videos, but as far as audio is concerned you'll want a suspension boom for your microphone. This will allow you to keep the mic close to your mouth without anyone knowing it's actually there.

You'll need software for a few different things when you're recording a podcast. It will be needed to record the audio in the first place, otherwise you'll be talking into a mic for nothing. The software should allow you to edit everything once you're finished too. Finally, software like Skype gives you an easy way to record interviews with other people and the sound quality is always good.

If you've got something to share with the world it's now easier than ever. There isn't a lot of things you'll need to get started.
