Hoverboards are so last year: Ride in three-wheel style with the folding Xcape e-scooter.

Nearly halfway to its crowdfunding goal, the China-based manufacturer has collected more than $39,000 from 100-plus Indiegogo backers.

"Ideal for urban commuting," the electric bike can travel up to 15 mph for a range of 25 miles; the battery fully recharges in five to six hours.

Weighing in at 40 lbs, Xcape folds up in a second to take up one square foot of ground space. It can also be easily rolled around when not in use just like a suitcase on wheels.

"Don't let the small size fool you," the project site said. Built from aircraft-grade aluminum, the scooter carries riders up to 6.5 feet tall and weighing up to 330 lbs.

Plus, a "state-of-the-art" independent dual rear-wheel suspension and dual braking system (with front-wheel e-brake and rear-wheel mechanical brake) promise a safe ride "under virtually any conditions," the company said.

Expected to retail for $1,499, the Xcape comes with a 36V 10.4ah customized Sanyo battery carrying approval from the UL safety science company, a 300 Watt motor, and a mobile application connected via Bluetooth offering GPS navigation and the ability to change the speed of the scooter.

The first 100 early-bird buyers can snag the scooter for half price ($799); the next 200 backers will get 40 percent off ($899). Shopping for a friend? Two Xcape bikes, plus two XcapeKits (bag, pulling rope, T-shirt, hat), cost a total $1,798.

Potential customers can also opt for the $99 reserve now/pay later perk, which promises up to 40 percent savings at the end of the Indiegogo campaign.
