Regardless of the way you choose to travel, it's becoming a bit of a nightmare to do so. You can't walk everywhere, opting to use a car inevitably means sitting in traffic, and flying means lots of planning ahead followed by lots of waiting and security checks. Or does it? If you're flying from LAX and have cash to spend, flying could actually be a very enjoyable and relaxing experience.
As detailed by the Los Angeles Times, LAX is getting a brand new terminal opening later this month called The Private Suite.
As the name suggests, everything about this terminal is private. It is located far away from the crowds of other travelers, includes private TSA screening, on-site parking, and private suites to relax in while you wait to board your flight. As The Private Suite website explains, "It typically takes 2,200 footsteps from car seat to plane seat. For members of The Private Suite, it's 70 footsteps. And they are all peaceful footsteps."
It sounds wonderful. You drive right up to the terminal, walk a few steps inside, wait in a private suite complete with a bathroom, daybed, and food service, then get checked without waiting by a TSA employee before being driven in a BMW 7 Series to your aircraft. Baggage is handled for you.
Of course, this isn't a service aimed at everyone and hardly anyone could afford it. Gaining access to The Private Suite requires membership, which costs $7,500 per year. That only gains you entry, though. On top of that there's a charge per flight. Domestic flights cost $2,700 for your group of up to four people, where as international flights cost $3,000. That's on top of whatever costs you incur for actually flying.
So who is The Private Suite for? The rich and famous, of course. Anyone who wants to travel without facing the paparazzi or fans will likely also be easily able to afford a membership. And let's face it, if you could afford this you'd certainly use it for the convenience, right?
As to who created this private terminal, it's the private security firm Gavin de Becker & Associates. They've apparently already had over 1,200 people sign up, which is very good news as the licensing costs and fees associated with operating The Private Suite amount to $34 million over the next decade.
