How exciting is it to move around fast and still enjoy wind in your hair? How exciting is it to protect the environment while commuting or completing tasks in the city? An electric scooter enables all of this. Owning one comes with many other exciting perks. Here are just some of the reasons why I love electric scooters.

The Electric Scooter Technology
The electric scooter technology is pretty simple, which is why it's so brilliant. This is a plug-in vehicle that can have either two or three wheels. Obviously, the electricity is used to power the scooter and make it move.

According to some evidence, the history of such electric vehicles dates back to the 1890s. Ogden Bolton Jr. from Ohio was the first person to file a patent for an "electric bicycle." Humber, a bicycle manufacturer, introduced its first electric tandem bike in 1896.

Since 2000, the technology has evolved even further. Electric scooters became much more efficient and faster than ever before.

Companies continue working on innovations in the field. In 2013, Lit Motors introduced its Kubo scooter – an electric scooter that's designed to haul more than just one person around. There's a cargo area built into the frame of the scooter, allowing a person to carry groceries and other products around.

In 2016, an Indian-based company called Ather Energy launched its first smart electric scooter. The scooter reaches a maximum speed of 75 kilometers per hour, it has Android-based navigation and it charges faster than a phone.

All of this being said means that you have dozens of exciting options to choose among today. Whether you're looking for cost-efficiency, affordability or a hi-tech scooter, you'll find at least one great vehicle that corresponds to your requirements.

Why Electric Scooters are Great
Now that I've told you a bit more about the history of electric scooters it's time to take a look at the characteristics that make these vehicles unique and so beneficial.

Affordability
Using an electric scooter is a lot more cost-efficient than owning a vehicle that needs fuel to function. Some researchers have found out that the operational cost of an electric scooter is less than one penny per mile. In comparison, the cost of using a vehicle powered by fuel is 0.15 dollars per mile.

An electric scooter is great for reducing various other vehicle-related costs. There are licenses, insurances and registration fees that come with a standard vehicle. All of these charges are either eliminated or significantly reduced through the ownership of a scooter. Many people think that electric scooters are expensive but you can get them for way less then a weeks pay at work.

Environment-Friendly
If you're concerned about the environment, you should definitely prioritize the purchase of an electric scooter over that of a standard vehicle.

An electric scooter doesn't generate emissions like a car. The power plants that generate the electricity required to power the scooter do generate some CO2 emissions but the impact is minimal in comparison to the carbon footprint of automobiles.

Scooters are so environment-friendly that some companies have even started relying on them for green deliveries. KFC Malaysia is one of the companies that uses electric scooters to make food deliveries. The fact that the scooters produce no CO2 emissions, they're silent and cheap to run. At the same time, electric scooters are fast enough to ensure that food reaches its final destination while it's still warm.

Easy to Operate
This is one of the features that made me fall in love with electric scooters. Such vehicles are safe and very easy to operate, even if you don't have a lot of experience driving a standard automobile.

As already mentioned, many of the scooters have Android-based smart features. These facilitate getting around and they also enhance safety (automatic power shutoff, for example).

Standard electrical safety components are built into the design, regardless of the electric scooter brand chosen. The batteries don't pose a risk of explosion or fires like in the case of car fuel.

Electric scooters can't reach the same high speed as automobiles. As a result, they're a lot safer for everyone on the road because they diminish the risk of reckless behavior on the road.

Electric scooters are exciting, cool and modern. Many see them as the solution to busy city traffic and the growing pollution from the use of cars. I'm just one of these people and so far, the experience has failed to disappoint.
