BARCELONA—The Lenovo Miix 320 is a sign of the times. Created for millennials, the detachable 2-in-1 laptop is packed with everything an on-the-go twenty-something needs to handle their digital enterprise needs. Lenovo envisions the slates as being particularly useful for part-time workers, Uber drivers, freelance bloggers, and online sellers.

Design and Physical Features

To that end, the Miix 320 is highly portable and highly affordable. Priced at just $199.99, the convertible is only 0.7 inches thick when docked with its keyboard. The tablet itself is just 0.4 inches thick and the keyboard come out to 0.3 inches, making the combined package 2.24 pounds.

hands-on-lenovo-miix-320-2in1 photo 2As a convertible, the 10.1-inch tablet section is snapped into the keyboard's dock with magnetic attachment clips that are easy to attach, but sturdy enough not to come out easily. The keyboard doesn't have backlighting, but the keys are responsive and the small size didn't hinder my typing speed.

The 1,920-by-1,200 display on the screen is sharp enough for text and graphics to come across clearly, but I did notice the panel washed out a little when I switched viewing angles. It wasn't enough to impact overall usage or visibility, though, especially since most of the time you'll be sitting right in front of the display.

Hardware and Software

In terms of hardware, the Miix 320 should be capable of handling basic productivity and browsing without issue. Under the hood it has a Intel Atom X5 processor, Intel HD graphics, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of eMMC storage. Lenovo also included dual-band Wi-Fi and configured it with LTE connectivity for people on the go.

According to Lenovo, one of the biggest strong suits of the Miix 320 will be its battery life. The slate should get up to 10 hours of battery runtime with standard usage, essentially allowing for a full work day's use and a decent amount of travel.

You'll find a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, which should do well enough for video chats, but may prove challenging for anything else.

The slate runs Windows 10 with support for Windows Continuum, letting it easily switch between tablet and laptop mode. Interestingly, Lenovo also promises new futures for the Miix 320 like Active Pen support.

Stay tuned for our more details and a full review of the convertible.
