Fujifilm's GFX 50S medium format camera system is now on sale, along with three lenses first shown at Photokina—the standard-angle 63mm F2.8, the close-focusing 120mm F4, and the wide-angle 32-64mm F4 zoom.
Fujiflm promised to deliver an additional three lenses by the end of the year, and is unveiling details on a pair of those forthcoming optics today.
The first is a wide-angle prime. The GF 23mm F4 R LM WR captures images with the same scope as an 18mm lens on a full-frame system. Like other WR lenses, and the GFX camera, it is sealed to protect from dust and splashes. We now know that it's going to ship in late June, and is priced at $2,599.95.
It's joined by a wide-aperture telephoto lens, the GF 110mm F2 R LM WR. It's roughly equivalent to a full-frame 85mm lens, a classic portrait focal length, and its wide aperture means you'll be able to capture images with a pleasingly shallow depth of field. It's also shipping in late June, priced at $2,799.95.
The GF 45mm F2.8 R WR, also unveiled at Photokina, hasn't received pricing or a release date as of yet. But Fujifilm has updated its GF lens roadmap. It indicates that the 45mm will ship in the fall, and it will be joined by a telephoto prime lens and teleconverter in early 2018.
Also shipping in June is the View Camera Adapter G, which allows you to use large format lenses, including those in the CM Fujinon series, with the GFX. Pricing isn't set as of yet.
GFX owners can expect a firmware update sometime in late spring. It will add computer-controlled tethered shooting via Wi-Fi, improved EV, and autofocus when shooting scenes with tricky lighting.
The GFX 50S is shipping now and is priced at $6,499.95.
