Flappy Bird Creator Returns With Ninja Spinki Challenges!!

The name Dong Nguyen may not mean much to you on its own, but when you add "creator of Flappy Bird" you'll remember that game instantly. Launching way back in 2013, Vietnamese artist and programmer Nguyen initially didn't have a hit on his hands. In fact, it wasn't until 2014 that the game became extremely popular.

Flappy Bird was frustratingly difficult, which also made it highly addictive and attracted millions of plays. Nguyen followed up the game with Swing Copters, which didn't garner the same interest. But now, The Verge made us aware he's back on mobile app stores once again, only this time it's with a quite different game called Ninja Spinki Challenges!!

When I say different, I mean in terms of the range of gameplay, but this game is by no means any less "just one more go" frustrating than Flappy Bird, in fact it may be more so.

The player is tasked with controlling a ninja character and completing one type of task per level. This could be successfully jumping over fruit, avoiding obstacles, or firing projectiles at objects. The aim being to survive for the time limit while completing the task. If you've ever played a WarioWare game then this is a similar idea: very short levels, very specific tasks, and it's very easy to fail.

Above is a playthrough of the first 12 levels, which shows off both the gameplay and how frustrating the mechanics can be for the player:

In total, there are six different types of challenge to overcome (Bounce, Shuriken, Crossy, Jump, Rolling, and Cannon), but they are repeated in ever more difficult scenarios.

If you'd like to potentially throw your smartphone across the room through irritation, Ninja Spinki Challenges!! if available to download for free for Android or iOS.
