Everything Leaving Netflix in December

Are you sad to say goodbye to a few more classics on Netflix? You're in luck! Most of the flicks and shows leaving the service in December won't be missed.

Seriously, I had to look up some of these titles here just to figure out what they could possibly be, let alone if I should care. Camp Takota? Frequencies? McConkey?? Finding even three to be sad about losing was tough, but I did it. Well, maybe two and one whose very existence is mystifying.

American Beauty (1999)—Gone Dec. 1
Not many films are huge financial hits and critical darlings that go on to win Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Screenplay. American Beauty did all of that, cementing the careers of Kevin Spacey, director Sam Mendes, and writer Alan Ball. Not to mention making rose petals and plastic bags floating in a breeze seem all the more worthwhile.

The Da Vinci Code (2006)—Gone Dec. 14
The book that sold 80 million copies worldwide led three years later to a film adaptation pairing director Ron Howard with star Tom Hanks, two guys who could do no wrong (until they tried to make another sequel to this flick this year). The original still holds up with its quick-paced look at a Holy Grail legends, Catholic Church conspiracy, and ancient clues only a long-haired symbologist could decipher.

Thor: Hammer of the Gods (2009)—Gone Dec. 1
The SyFy channel has reclaimed some of its previous Battlestar Galactica-esque glory of late by featuring great shows like The Expanse and The Magicians. Never forget, however, it's also the network of Sharknado and Mansquito. So this "film" isn't much of a shock. Knowing that Thor was soon coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, SyFy beat them to the public-domain punch by airing this made-for-TV in Sweden schlock fest. It features a reincarnated-as-a-human-viking Thunder God (played by one of the kids from Home Improvement) searching Midgard (Earth) for his lost hammer.
