Artificial intelligence can be an amazing technology. It can be used to automate processes, solve complex equations, or test suites and analyze data faster than humans. However, it may pose a huge threat to human life. The problem is the robotics singularity, or when robots may be able to think without human's giving them the commands. This can oppose a threat because once robot's doesn't value human life, it can end up killing humans out of "mercy". If it past our human intellect, it can end up believing that humans are low intelligent creatures who will live without benefiting anything to humanity. Artificial intelligence even goes more dangerous than this. Even some conspiracy theorist all alternative media have been picking up on this, and popular scientist also have warned about the dangerous threat to AI.
AI, not being used in just robotics, can also pose an even bigger threat. Self driving cars can end up being more vulnerable to hacking. This plus if a virus was released on the power grid can pose a threat to all electric cars that rely on this technology. Self driving cars can theoretically avoid running over a large rock, only to end up running down a cliff and killing everyone of board. I even once dared to ask the question in a cyber summit.
Top scientist are also worrying about the technology. Elon Musk one said, "Artificial Intelligence is like summoning a demon", (Source: The Guardian, Samuel Gibbs). I think even other dangerous less thought about is the threat AI can pose to the job market. If we use AI to automate web development or make creating app's easier think of how many jobs can be lost? How about replacing human's with robots for administrative tasks. Don't get me wrong. I do believe we should continue to pursue AI, just in a responsible way. AI can end up tracking the human genome quicker, solving medical problems scientists dreamed of solving. However, we need to be aware of the many threats it can post to humanity.
I believe AI also is extremely beneficial in collaboration, as well as financial analysis. With the many benefits it has, it is definitely worth pursuing. Again, we just need to be careful about it. I don't think it is time to trust our life's entirely an automated technology. Certainly not yet.
