Vacations just got a little cheaper for AT&T customers, or at the very least, less of a shock when you return home to your bill.

Starting Friday, the AT&T International Day Pass allows users to talk, text, and surf the Web in more than 100 countries. But, instead of being charged per minute, message, or megabyte, you'll pay $10 a day per device for a full 24-hour period.

"Traveling has its own challenges," David Christopher, AT&T's chief marketing officer, said in a statement. "It's great being able to use the domestic plan you're familiar with while abroad."

That means more opportunities to translate street signs, navigate transportation networks, video chat, and upload filtered photos, and less time stressing over exactly what extra charges you are paying.

Simply add your smartphone or tablet to the plan to access data in destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. Users also get unlimited calls within International Day Pass countries and to the US, as well as unlimited texts to anywhere in the world at no additional cost.

"AT&T International Day Pass simplifies travelers' lives so they can enjoy more of their favorite mobile apps when on-the-go overseas," Christopher said. "This helps with booking lodging, catching a ride … using social media, and more."

If you're planning a long-term holiday or trans-atlantic move, however, you should think about picking up an unlocked smartphone or international SIM card instead. AT&T reserves the right to revoke access to the new feature if voice, text, or data usage exceeds 50 percent of the customer's total use for two consecutive months.

The carrier in August expanded its global roaming coverage to include Cuba, becoming the last major US wireless provider to offer service on the island.
