After nine long years Metapad has returned from the great beyond with a new version. Developer Alexander Davidson has started work on this classic Notepad replacement once again.
Not familiar with Metapad? Here is the description from the website:
Metapad is a small, fast and completely free text editor for Windows (95/98/NT/XP/Vista/7) with similar features to Microsoft Notepad but with many extra (and rather useful) features. It was designed to completely replace Notepad since it includes all of Notepad’s features and much, much more.
The download size is extremely small (~108 kilobytes) and comes in a zip file format. Once you have Metapad downloaded simply unzip the exe file, place it in an appropriate Program Files folder, and create a shortcut. Need to take Metapad with you? Just add it to your favorite flash drive and double click the exe file to start it up when needed.
Ready for more goodness? Metapad comes with a nice set of options for tweaking it to suit your needs. There is even an option for quick toggling back and forth between two fonts as desired (you will need to select the two fonts).

- Better defaults for general settings
