Harrison Ford David Prowse Peter Mayhew Liam Neeson
Answer: Liam Neeson
Many of the actors that have populated the Star Wars universe over the last thirty years can boast rather exceptional heights. David Prowse, the British actor inside Darth Vader’s suit, was an impressive 6 ft 6 in. Peter Mayhew, the actor inside the Chewbacca costume, was a towering 7 ft 2 in.
None of the towering actors from the original trilogy, however, incurred any additional expenses as a result of their heights as the sets were full scale and quite analog. When it came time to film the prequel films, starting with The Phantom Menance in 1999, one actor’s height did add quite a bit of change to the bill.
Liam Neeson played the role of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and, at 6 ft 4 in, was the tallest actor on set. The sets were built to be only slightly taller than the actors (as the rest of the set was filled in using computer graphics) and the extra inches Neeson boasted over his set mates added a whopping $150,000 worth of labor and materials to the set budget.
