With Sony's announcement this week that PS4 console sales have gone past 60 million, peripheral manufacturers will be falling over themselves to offer supporting hardware. Seagate is one of those manufacturers, and it just announced a new external storage solution aimed specifically at PS4 owners.
If this sounds familiar, it may be because yesterday Seagate unveiled an external storage solution for the Xbox One. Where as the Xbox Game Drive Hub offers a huge 8TB of storage, today's Game Drive for PS4 is a more meager 2TB. Considering Sony made it easy to upgrade the hard drive inside the PS4, 2TB may be enough of a storage boost once you've maxed out internally.
The Game Drive for PS4 is black with a blue aluminum trim to match the standard PS4 and PS4 Pro designs. It connects via a USB 3.0 port using the included cable and doesn't require a separate power cable. As it's an officially-recognized drive, your PS4 will automatically detect and set it up, which is a process that takes less than three minutes. And because it's on a fast USB 3.0 connection, it's possible to install games and run them from Seagate's drive.

With games now regularly being up to 50GB in size, the Game Drive for PS4 should allow for at least 40 extra games being ready to play. Another bonus of using an external drive is the ability to take your games with you to a friend's house. Just login to your account once the drive is hooked up and continue playing away from home.
The MSRP of the Game Drive for PS4 is $89.99, but retailers will likely take that down a few dollars. However, keep in mind that if the portability benefits of Seagate's drive don't appeal, you can pick up a 2TB internal drive for less than $80 and be left with a spare hard drive you can place in an enclosure.
