In August last year, Netgear launched its Orbi WiFi System as a way to solve the dead zone problem within a home. It consists of two parts: a router that connects to your modem, and a satellite acting as a wireless receiver and range extender for your home network.

The original Orbi AC3000 model offers wireless coverage for an area up to 5,000 square feet, but Netgear realized not everyone needs that kind of range. So today, two new models are being introduced catering to smaller homes. The AC2200 RBK40 model covers up to 4,000 square feet, while the AC2200 RBK30 model covers 3,500 square feet and replaces the free standing satellite component with a smaller wall-plug version.

Regardless of which model is selected, they all feature Tri-Band WiFi and simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi connections. Firmware updates are applied automatically ensuring the system is always up-to-date, and there's an option to provide secure Internet access safely for visiting guests.

You'll also gain access to four gigabit Ethernet ports on the Orbi router for wired connections, the promise of 100Mbps Internet access if your plan supports such speeds, and the Orbi app for iOS or Android for simple network setup. If you prefer Amazon Alexa, Netgear built in support for voice command control.

With a smaller range comes lower pricing. The AC3000 model costs $399.99, where as the RBK40 is $349.99, and the RKB30 is $299.99. It's also possible to extend the range using additional satellites. The wall-plug satellite costs $149.99 and adds 1,500 square feet of range. An AC2200 satellite is $199.99 with 2,000 square feet of range, and an AC3000 satellite is $249.99 with 2,500 square feet of range. Lower prices can be found if you shop around. For example, Amazon offers the AC3000 system for $349.99 and the additional satellite for $214.
