LG today teased new security options and features for its G6 flagship smartphone and introduced a model for those looking for additional storage.
LG has two new colors for the G6: blue and gold, or in the company's marketing parlance "optical marine blue" and "optical terra gold." Why optical? LG says the backs of these phones sport a "lenticular film to deliver a mesmeric optical effect." Fancy.
A new security option called Face Print, meanwhile, lets G6 owners unlock their handset with their face. Face Print is "more convenient to use than existing facial recognition technology" and won't drain your battery, LG says. Just hold your phone up to your mug, and the device will unlock as soon as it recognizes you.
Speaking of battery, Low Power Consumption mode promises to improve lag time with third-party applications without draining a device's power.
Another helpful new feature will alert you with a notification if your finger is in the shot when you're taking a photo. "The wide angle lens in the LG G6 covers a large field of view and as such, it can sometimes capture an unwanted finger in the frame if the shooter is not careful," LG says. This new feature "prevents shutterbugs from spoiling their own photographs with an errant digit."
These new features will arrive via a software update, but LG did not reveal a launch date.

It did announce the LG G6 Plus, which features 128GB of onboard storage along with "premium earphones from B&O Play to take full advantage of the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC" inside, LG says. It comes with all the bells and whistles of the G6 with the addition of wireless charging in "some countries."
The G6 Plus will come in black, blue, and gold. LG hasn't yet announced exact availability dates for the device; like the G6, it will got on sale in Korea first before possibly reaching the US.
The original G6, which hit store shelves in Korea on March 10 and launched in the US the following month, earned an excellent rating in PCMag's review, nabbing props for its "excellent one-handed form factor" and "sturdy build," but lost some points because, as we noted, its "processor lags behind upcoming flagships."
