Lego Tape Makes Brick Building Possible Everywhere

Lego tries to keep things fresh and consumers buying Lego bricks by continuing to bring out new products to build and branching out into new areas, for example, by getting Lego video games made. But there's a new Lego-compatible product in development which really should have been an official Lego product, and all it consists of is a roll of tape.

An Indiegogo project is underway which has already met its funding goal many times over for Lego Compatible Adhesive Tape. It's the clever idea of Nimuno Loops.

Lego Compatible Tape is as simple as it sounds. It's tape, but the non-sticky side is covered in Lego brick mounting bumps. So you can stick the tape to any surface and even bend it around corners, before building Lego on top of it. With this tape, your Lego creations can be built anywhere the tape sticks, including on walls or ceilings.

On Indiegogo you can secure two rolls of tape 6.5 feet/2 meters in length for $11. Six rolls consisting of two red, blue, and green color options costs $34. Four rolls of a specific color or a mix is $22. Shipping is worldwide and costs around $8. Once the Indiegogo campaign is over, the price of two rolls will increase to $12.99 and four rolls to $25.

The reason the Indiegogo campaign was started is because Nimuno Loops needed to raise $8,000 to pay for tooling, packaging, and services to ship the product. With a month left to go, the amount raised sits at $480,259. So this products is definitely happening unless Lego finds a reason to try and block it.

The positive response this tape has received on Indiegogo suggests to me that Lego would do well to take note and possibly even approach Nimuno Labs with an offer. This really needs to be an official product and it would certainly boost Lego's profits for years to come.
