As if you don't already spend enough time on Instagram, the social network today announced "two new ways to discover the world around you" via the app's Explore section.
That includes location stories and hashtag stories. These new features will let you more easily "see what's happening around you and find stories related to your interests," Instagram wrote in a blog post.
Now, when you visit Explore, you'll see a new "story ring" at the top filled with stories happening near you. So, if you're in New York City, for instance, you'll see a circle labeled "New York" to the right of "Top Live." Clicking that will bring up stories from people who have used location stickers on their posts. You can also search for any location, and you'll see a story ring for that place at the top of the page.
The other new feature, hashtag stories, will bring up stories related to hashtags you search for. So, the next time you search for #yoga or another hashtag, you may see a story ring at the top of the page filled with stories using that tag.

If you want to be included, just add a location sticker or hashtag to your story. After doing so, your story "may be" included in the larger story, Instagram said. If your story makes the cut, you'll see a line at the top of your viewer list showing how many people saw it in the larger story. If you don't want your story showing up on the Explore tab, just tap the X next to the larger story on your viewer list.

Meanwhile, Snapchat today introduced custom stories, a new feature that lets you collaborate with friends on collections of photos and videos centered around a big event or a specific location.
