The Google Maps app for Android is getting a couple new useful features.

Just swipe up in the app and you'll see three tabs (driving, places, and transit) offering helpful, real-time information.

Under the driving tab, you'll see real-time ETAs to home and work, as long as you have those addresses saved. You'll also see nearby traffic conditions and expected delays on the road ahead, so you can be prepared before you head out the door.

Plus, there's a new option that lets you get real-time traffic info as you drive without turn-by-turn directions. This should help you avoid traffic jams on your way to work. Just press "start driving" to try it out.

Meanwhile, the update also delivers real-time insights for those looking to take public transportation. If you have your home and work addresses saved, you'll see a recommendation for which bus or train to take, when the next one is scheduled to arrive, and an ETA. If you're going somewhere else, just swipe down to find nearby transit stations and real-time schedules.

Finally, the places tab offers "curated lists of places to eat and drink," Lowe wrote. You'll see options like the "best diners," "cheap eats," or "business dining." From this tab, you can also search for ATMs, pharmacies, gas stations, and grocery stores. If you're new to the area, you can scroll through images and get a short description of the neighborhood.

"When you're on the go, there's no time for apps that can't keep up," Lowe wrote. "Whether you need to get to work or you're just looking for a quick bite around you, Google Maps gives you personalized information about your world so you can make decisions and get around with confidence."
