If you prefer to hide a PC behind a monitor, you can't go far wrong with one of the Gigabyte BRIX mini PCs. They've been available for a few generations of Intel chips now, offering a mix of Celeron, Pentium, and Core i3, i5, and i7 options. But more recently Gigabyte expanded the range and the size of the case to allow for performance for gaming.

With that in mind, Gigabyte just launched the BRIX Gaming VR mini PC. It's a tiny tower PC that manages to cram in a 7th generation Kaby Lake Core i7-7700HQ processor and a GeForce GTX 1060 GPU complete with 6GB GDDR5 RAM. Even though the case only measures 220-by-110-by-110mm, there's room to fit two M.2 SSDs, a 2.5-inch HDD or SSD, and two SO-DIMM slots for up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM.

Gigabyte is also generous with ports. There's HDMI (x2), Mini DisplayPort (x2), USB 3.0 (x3), and two USB 3.1 ports with one of those being USB Type C. Display resolution support includes 4096-by-2160 over HDMI and 3840-by-2160 over Mini DisplayPort, with this BRIX capable of running quad displays. There's also Gigabit LAN, Dual Band Wireless-AC, and Bluetooth 4.2.

You'd expect the combination of a Core i7 and GTX 1060 GPU in such a small package to generate a lot of heat and therefore cooling fan noise. But that's apparently not the case according to Gigabyte. The Gaming VR produces 20dB when idle, increasing to just 35dB under full load. If that's the case, noise will not be an issue.

The BRIX Gaming VR was originally unveiled during CES in January and finally saw a launch during Computex last week. We still don't know pricing, but expect this tiny desktop PC to appear for sale very soon.
