Live video is great for sharing spontaneous moments on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, to name a few social media sites, but the footage is very much "what you see is what you get." In other words, you can't edit it.
For times when you want to share a more polished video with your followers, you might want to check out Apple's new Clips app. Announced today alongside an updated iPad, Clips lets you combine video clips, photos, and music into a complete video that you can upload to your social network of choice.
People familiar with Apple software will likely think immediately of iMovie, the video editing app available on mobile devices as well as macOS. But Clips has a few features that iMovie doesn't, and it's geared toward people who aren't interested in learning the ins and outs of non-linear video editing.
The "Live Titles" feature in Clips will let you create animated captions and titles entirely through voice control. As you speak, captions are automatically generated, and you can later add text, punctuation, and (of course) emoji.

Meanwhile, the actual shooting process is designed with push-button simplicity. You touch and hold a button to shoot live video, and augment it with clips or photos from your Photo Library, along with custom filters. Combine your footage and photos with Live Titles and chose from dozens of included soundtracks to create your finished video.
Videos made with Clips can be shared directly to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Vimeo, among other social media sites. You can also share them directly with your contacts using Apple's Messages app.
Clips is a free app, and it will be available on the App Store beginning in April for iPhone 5s and later, the new 9.7-inch iPad, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad mini 2 and later, and the sixth-generation iPod touch.
