Microsoft is now more aggressively pushing taskbar and action center ads for Microsoft Edge. These are just one of the many types of advertising in Windows 10. Here’s how to make Edge stop nagging you.

How to Make Edge Stop

Microsoft’s Edge pop-ups are implemented differently from those Get Office notifications. They’re not generated by the Microsoft Edge app on your PC. Instead, they’re generated by the Windows operating system itself. You can’t just disable notifications for Edge like you would for the Get Office app.

You’ll find this setting in the Settings app. Open the Start menu and click the Settings icon to launch it.

Navigate to System > Notifications & Actions in the Settings app.

Scroll down to the Notifications section and disable the “Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows” option.

That’s it. Windows won’t notify you with these “tips, tricks and suggestions” any longer.

How to Disable Website Notifications in Edge

Microsoft’s Edge promotions are different from normal website notifications, which appear if you’ve given a website permission to show notifications via Edge. Microsoft added support for these in Windows 10’s Anniversary Update.

To control these in Edge, open Edge’s menu and head to Settings > View Advanced Settings. Click the “Manage” button under Notifications to view and control the websites that have permission to show you notifications.

While we’ve just seen ads for Edge displayed in this way so far, the Settings interface implies this feature will also be used to push other Microsoft applications. We wouldn’t be surprised to see other Microsoft services—like Office 365, the Windows Store, Groove Music, and Movies & TV—pushed using these tips in the future.
